Black Sesame and Candy Corn Marshmallow Bars

Looking for something to make for a Halloween party? How about a way to use up excess candy? These black sesame candy corn marshmallow bars are for you. Essentially an elevated Rice Crispies treat, these bars are super easy to make and perfect for spooky season. Despite being loaded with candy corn and mallow pumpkins, they’re actually not too sweet! In fact, I think they’re really well balanced. Probably because of how well the black sesame paste rounds them out.

Can I customize these marshmallow bars?

Of course! That’s one of my favorite things about this recipe. Got other types of candy you want to use up? Throw it on in. As always, be mindful of flavors. I wouldn’t add a cinnamon flavored candy, for instance. But a chocolatey treat? Sure. You’ll just want to make sure that if you add a lot more candy than is called for that you compensate by also adding more marshmallows. I don’t have a ratio chart or anything, but it’s pretty easy to eyeball. I know you can do it.

Where can I find black sesame paste?

I would recommend checking your local Asian market for black sesame paste. I’ve also purchased black sesame paste from Weee!, which is an online Asian and Hispanic grocer. You can also buy it off Amazon, but it’ll likely be a lot more expensive that way.

Is black sesame paste the same as black tahini?

Nope. Black sesame paste is made from toasted black sesame seeds, yielding a stronger, nuttier flavor and a darker color. Tahini is made from hulled raw sesame seeds, so black tahini is available it won’t taste the same as black sesame paste.

How do I store these?

These marshmallow bars can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days. If you’d like to keep them for longer than that, consider freezing them.
