Citrusy Tangerine Yuzu Mimosa

Jump to Recipe

2022 is right around the corner. To celebrate, I concocted a citrusy yuzu tangerine mimosa. It’s a vibrant, yet balanced drink that fully embraces citrus season. A more complex and interesting version of the mimosa we all know and love. One that’s suitable for mornings and evenings alike! In true mimosa fashion, it’s easy to throw together. One ounce yuzu juice, one ounce tangerine juice, three dashes black lemon bitters, and four ounces (or to taste) sparkling wine.

A note on servings:

This recipe is written for one serving. The math on these babies, however, is quite simple. So if you’re drinking them with friends, adjust accordingly! If you follow the suggested sparkling wine measurement, a bottle will yield about six servings. So if you want to make a pitcher of these, for example, simply multiply by six.

What’s yuzu?

Yuzu is a citrus fruit that’s commonly grown in East Asia. It’s widely used in Japanese and Korean cooking, and is becoming more and more popular in the US. If I were to compare it to another fruit, I’d say it’s most similar to a lemon, but more aromatic and bitter with floral notes. I absolutely love yuzu, and and have a lot of fun finding new ways to use it. That said, it can be a little bit tricky to procure. I rarely find fresh yuzu fruit in stores. Yuzu juice, however, is much easier to get. For this recipe, I bought some on Amazon. I’ve also seen it at certain Whole Foods locations, as well as Asian markets!

Where can I get black lemon bitters?

I recently discovered black lemon bitters while perusing Total Wines. I was looking for ingredients that would inspire new cocktails, and happened upon a sampler pack of Scrappy’s Bitters. Black lemon bitters was one of them, and I thought it sounded absolutely perfect for this citrus fest of a cocktail! According to the description on their website, it’s based on a dehydrated lime that’s commonly used in Middle Eastern. It’s smoky, earthy, citrusy, and floral. A true delight. Scrappy’s Black Lemon Bitters are also available on Amazon, so if you don’t feel like trekking to a liquor store, that’s an option.
