How to Make a Stop Motion Video in Photoshop

Whoa whoa whoa, what’s this? A new blog category? YUP. For those of you who don’t know, since starting this blog a couple of years ago, I’ve gotten very into food photography. It started as a way to make the recipes I’d post on here look better. Because as it turns out, making food look good on camera is no easy feat. But somewhere along the way, I fell in love with it. I like to think that I’ve gotten pretty good at it, and am even trying to make a career of it! At this point, I get a ton of questions about food photography and styling on Instagram. I’m all for transparency and helping others improve, so I decided to start offering food photography and styling tips. For my first topic, I’m tackling stop motion.

I know that might seem like an advanced topic to start with, but it’s a lot easier than it sounds. And since I’m hosting a stop motion challenge on Instagram in a couple weeks, I thought a tutorial might be helpful for anyone participating. The challenge is part of a monthly technique collab series that a group of friends and I started under an account called Food Capture Collective. If you want to join, you can do so here! It’s open to anyone! And if food photography is something that you’re interested in, it’s an incredible way to keep learning, growing, and challenging yourself.

Anyway, remember those Turkish Deviled Eggs I made a few weeks ago? Well, that’s what I used as my subject for my little sample stop motion. So if you clicked through to this post for a deviled eggs recipe, sorry! You can find it here, though.

If you’re interested in learning about how to make a stop motion video in Photoshop, though, you’ve come to the right place.

I thought a YouTube video would be the best way to teach this particular lesson, so here it is!

Anyway, I hope you found this tutorial helpful! I’ll have a new recipe up next week. That said, I definitely plan on sprinkling more photography and styling related content into this space. So if that’s something you’re interested in, keep an eye out!

And of course, I wouldn’t be a proper blogger type person if I didn’t plug my Instagram and YouTube channel. I’d love it if you’d join my on either platform. Or better yet, both! And finally, if you have any feedback, I’d love it if you’d let me know either in the comments or on Youtube. (I know I said “um” a lot – still getting used to the whole bring on camera thing. But I genuinely hope you got something out of it!)
