Maraschino Cherry Cappuccino

Jump to Recipe

Normally, I’m a black coffee kinda gal. My husband Ben is a coffee snob and meticulously brews each pot of coffee we drink, so there’s really no reason to add sugar or anything else. Once in a while, however, I enjoy something sweet and foamy. When that craving comes along, this magical maraschino cherry cappuccino is a great option. Ben and I first had the idea for this a while back. We’d bought our first jar of real maraschino cherries and fell in love with them. We liked the idea of using them outside of cocktails, and a maraschino cappuccino was the first thing that came to mind. It was delicious, so here I am, writing up our recipe.

Let’s talk about espresso

Feel free to make your espresso using whatever technique you like best. That said, Ben wanted me to let you know that he used 19 grams of coffee, which he extracted in 23 seconds to yield 50 grams of espresso. Follow suit if you’d like. Or don’t. It’s really up to you.

A note on the maraschino cherries:

If you’re a cocktail aficionado, you probably know the cherries I’m talking about here. They’re the extremely decadent (and expensive – sorry) What kind of milk should I use for this?!

Use whatever milk you’d like! I used oat (Oatly, to be specific), because that’s my favorite non-dairy milk. But you can use cow’s milk, almond milk, soy milk, or any other milk you can think of. Just make sure it’s a milk that you actually like. I would think almond would be a good match here because there are almond notes (and almond extract) in this cappuccino. That said, I do find that almond milk doesn’t foam up as nicely as oat milk does. But that’s my personal preference so if you love almond milk in your cappuccinos, have at it.
