Super Simple Passion Fruit Gin and Tonic

I always feel a little silly writing up a blog post for a recipe this simple. But oddly enough, they’re some of my most popular recipes! Which I guess I can understand. There’s very little to lose when a recipe includes 4 ingredients, most of which you likely already have. And I for one will always appreciate a low effort recipe. Anyway, if you like passion fruit and you enjoy a good gin and tonic, you’ll definitely want to give this a go.

At first, you might think passion fruit and gin is an odd pairing. And yes, if you’re using a gin that tastes like a Christmas tree, it may be. But if you opt for a gin that’s more botanical or citrus forward, it makes complete sense. In addition to being intensely tropical, sour and sweet, passion fruit has some floral notes to it! So in my opinion, it fits right in.

What type of gin should I use?

Feel free to use whatever gin you’d like. That said, I’d highly recommend one that has botanical or floral notes. My favorites are Empress or Hendricks. I’ve tried this passion fruit gin and tonic with both, and they worked perfectly!

And what about the passion fruit? Should I include the seeds? Can I use frozen?

Sadly, fresh passion fruit can be expensive and tough to get ahold of in certain areas. If that’s the case for you, feel free to buy frozen passion fruit pulp. If you go that route, I’d recommend using 1oz of passion fruit pulp. And if you’re using fresh, you can decide whether or not you’d like to include the seeds. I love textured drinks. Fruit juice with pulp is my jam, and I love drinks like mojitos that have built in snacks. So including the seeds was the obvious choice for me. I also love how interesting it makes this drink look. If you don’t like texture in your drinks, simply strain the passion fruit before adding it! Or use store bought pulp. Either option works great here.
