Refreshing Floral Lychee Rose Lemonade

If you ask me, lychee isn’t used nearly enough in American cooking. This succulent fruit has a wonderfully sweet and floral flavor. And as is so often the case with delicately sweet fruits, it pairs beautifully with lemon. I recently bought a bunch of lychee juice to use for a New Year’s Eve cocktail (check out my Lychee Empress Sparkler recipe if you haven’t already). I’d ordered it from Costco, so as you can imagine, I had a ton left over. On a whim, I decided to mix it with fresh lemon juice and a little rosewater. The result was the most perfect lychee rose lemonade. I honestly didn’t have any plans to turn it into a recipe, but when I found myself making it every day for a week straight, I realized I should probably share it with the world.

Ingredients

If you’re looking for lychee juice, you can get it from Costco or your local Asian market. Honestly, going with the latter option is probably wise unless you’re prepared to drink a whole lot of lychee juice. I’ve also heard of people getting it from large grocery store chains, but that might be a bit hit or miss.

Rosewater is also pretty easy to come by. If there’s a Middle Eastern aisle at your local grocery store, it’s probably there. It’s also sold at a lot of liquor stores! Or if you happen to have rose petals on hand you can make it from scratch. If I’m being honest, though, I kind of prefer the pre-made kind for most recipes. It tends to be a lot stronger than the homemade variety, so I know exactly what I’m going to get when I use it, whereas I might end up with only the faintest hint of rose when using homemade rosewater.

Technique

You’ll also be happy to learn that making this drink is ridiculously easy. Like, kids are notorious for making lemonade, so you know it’s simple. But this version is even easier because all the sugar is in the lychee juice you barely even need to mix it!
