Hi! My name’s Kirby and I’m the creator of Leisure Fan Club. I live in Los Angeles, CA with my husband, Ben, our two daughters and our elderly chihuahua. When I started this blog, I was a software developer in desperate need of a creative outlet. So I created this space to focus on two of my favorite things: cooking and travel.
Food
Outside of work, I spend a lot of my time cooking. It’s not uncommon for me to come home and start making an elaborate meal that won’t be ready till 10pm. (Though don’t worry – I try to keep my own recipes quick and easy!) I love the process of creating something delicious from start to finish, and I always have. In fact, if you ever meet my dad, I’m sure he’ll be happy to tell you about how far I’ve come from the concoctions of my early youth (think a pot of cold water with every spice in the cabinet thrown in, or my middle school breakfast of bananas sautéed in sugar and butter with Nutella and raspberries). I’m a vegetarian, so while you won’t find any meat recipes here, I think you’ll be impressed by how versatile and complex vegetables can be.
Travel
On weekends you can find me in the mountains, checking out new spots in LA, making things (sometimes edible, sometimes not), or on a quick jaunt out of town. To be honest, one of my favorite things about living in LA is the ability to leave it every now and then. California is such a beautiful and diverse state, and I love exploring it. Though, I really love exploring in general. Travel is one of my favorite pastimes, when I can manage it. I was incredibly privileged to start traveling at a young age. It was definitely easier when my parents paid for and arranged everything, but by making travel a priority, Ben and I have been able to see some pretty incredible places.
I started this blog because while we can’t all have our dream jobs, we can strive to have exciting lives outside of work. I’ve gotten pretty good at that and I think it’s worth sharing! So whether you’re interested in recipes, travel photos, or weekend guides, I hope you find it here!
